Human Rights Council, Geneva (March 22nd - 27th, 2007) |

Panel on the intersection of Violence against Women On 22 March from 4:30 - 6 pm, a panel to discuss the intersection of HIV and VAW, and the Show us the Money report was organized parallel to the UN Human Right Council. Panelists included Yakin Erturk, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, Cynthia Rothschild (CWGL) and Susana Fried (on behalf of WWW). Approximately 40 people attended the panel and a lively discussion followed the presentations. Among the attendees were a number of government delegates, including Annika Molin Hellgren, Counselor, from the Swedish Mission in Geneva (

) who indicated her country's commitment to supporting work on this issue. Several staff from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights also attended, including staff who work closely with Louise Arbour, the High Commissioner for Human Rights. |

Meeting with the Global Coalition on Women and AIDS |

The coalition took advantage of the
opportunity for members to meet with staff at the Global Coalition for Women
and AIDS (GCWA). Those who attended from UN agencies were Joanne Sandler,
Deputy Executive Director of UNIFEM; Judith Polsky of UNAIDS who staffs the
GCWA and led the meeting; Gillian Holmes of UNDP, UN Action against Sexual
Violence in Conflict; Suneeta Dhar, UNIFEM Trust Fund Officer.
